Chord for Glee Paul Overstreet (born February 17, 1989) is a musician and actor from the United States. He is best known for his portrayal of Sam Evans on the Fox television show Glee (2009–2015).
He has been married to actress/singer Janelle DePaul since January 10, 2012. They met while filming Glee together in 2010.
Their first child, a son, was born in October 2013. A second child, a daughter, was born in April 2017.
In May 2015, it was announced that Overstreet had exited the series to pursue other projects. His departure was confirmed by Fox shortly after its debut episode aired. He returned for three episodes during the show's seventh season.
His other notable roles include Scott Keller in The Blind Side (2008), Michael Bluth in Arrested Development (2005), and Jeff Bogard in Dead or Alive (2013).
Overstreet began acting at age three when he appeared in an episode of Boy Meets World. He went on to appear in various commercials before being cast as Sam Evans on Glee.
Chord received a call from his manager in early 2010, asking him to audition for an open casting call for the FOX television series Glee (2009). Chord was cast in the blockbuster program as Sam Evans, a quarterback turned glee club member, after multiple callbacks and auditions. The role made Chord one of the most popular characters on the show.
Sam is portrayed by actor Chris Colfer. He was born on January 4th, 1987 in New York City. His mother is a nurse and his father is a graphic designer. He has one younger sister named Kimberly (also an actress) who appears in several episodes as a background character. She was played by another Glee star, Darren Criss.
After graduating high school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. During this time, he took on various odd jobs to make money. One of these was working at a McDonald's where he met Lea Michele (who plays his love interest/friend Rachel Berry), who at the time was looking for work. They soon became friends and now they are in a relationship. Together, they have won several awards including a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy. In 2014, they were nominated for an Oscar for their role in the movie Call Me By Your Name.
He has been praised for his portrayal of Sam.
Overstreet, who joined Glee midway through its second season and left after his option to remain as a regular was not taken up for Season 3, returned to the program as a frequent guest actor last season following a brief stint on ABC's The Middle. He has a recurring role as Mr. Schue's father, Robert "Bob" Overstreet, Jr., who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
Glee creator Ryan Murphy had said that when Overstreet returned for another season, he would play a new character named Jimmy Brooks. However, when asked by TV Guide whether or not Bob was still alive, Murphy replied, "Yes, he is." This suggests that perhaps Bob has regained some memory of his time on Glee and is now living with Schue and their family.
However, this could also be interpreted as Murphy simply being coy about what role Bob will play in future episodes. In any case, it seems clear that Glee intends for Bob Overstreet to play an important part in the show's future.
Chords by Paul Overstreet is a bestselling album that has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. It was released in October 1991 and produced five hit singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
It's been almost 30 years since Chords by Paul Overstreet was released, but it remains one of the best-selling country albums of all time. The album's lead single, "Don't You Want Me," reached number one in November 1991. Follow-up "I'm Not Crazy" became his second number one hit a month later, followed by "Sweet Thing" at the end of 1992, "If You're Reading This Song (And I Know You Are)" in March 1993, and finally "Why Don't We Just Call It Off?" in August of that year.
As far as I can tell, this is the only album with two consecutive number one hits from the same artist. I don't know if anyone else has done this before or since, but it's pretty rare.
Paul Overstreet was born on January 4th, 1962 in New York City. He grew up in Orlando, Florida where he started playing guitar at age 14.
Chord Overstreet was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to make-up artist Julie (Miller) and country singer and songwriter Paul Overstreet, whose own father was a minister. Chord and his five siblings were up in a creative and musical atmosphere, thanks to their father's involvement in the music industry. When he was only 10 years old, Chord appeared on stage with his family at The Country Music Awards.
He took piano lessons as a child and by age 13 had written his first song. At 15, he started writing songs for other artists and played guitar in a band. After high school, Chord went to college where he studied business management for two years. But he didn't quit music, joining his father's band as a guitarist. In 1995, Paul Overstreet recorded one of Chord's songs, "I'm Not Your Hero", which became a number 1 hit on the country charts. This gave Chord the opportunity to record another song he wrote called "Angels". It became a number 1 hit as well.
After graduating from college, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked as an assistant manager for Arista Records. There he met his future wife, actress/singer/songwriter Janelle Justin, who was working for Geffen Records.
Nash Overstreet, his brother, is a member of the band Hot Chelle Rae. His sister Kelli also plays guitar.
Chord has two sons named Walker and Cooper with wife Miranda Cosgrove. They have been married since 2004. Their son was born in 2005.
In 2007, he began dating singer-songwriter Taylor Momsen. The couple broke up in 2008 but decided to continue working together. In 2009, they announced that they had reconciled their differences and would continue as friends.
Chord and Miranda met while filming a PSA for MTV's Save A Life program. She was just a kid when they first started dating but now works with Chord on various projects including his foundation. They have been living together for several years but are not engaged.
In 2011, Chord came out as gay. He told People magazine, "I've always felt like I can be myself around my family. My parents are really open-minded and accept everyone for who they are."
He added, "As far as friends and fans go, I guess I'm usually known for being funny or cute or both.
