Gerard Way (born Gerard Anthony Way on April 23, 1977 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American musician who is the lead singer of the pop punk band My Chemical Romance. He also plays the guitar, keyboard, and piano.

Way began writing songs at the age of 14 after discovering the music of Green Day, Blink-182, and NOFX. By 19, he had formed his own band called The Blackout. After releasing one album, they disbanded to pursue other projects. In 2004, Way joined MCR as their lead vocalist. The band has sold over 12 million albums worldwide and has been nominated for three Grammys.

Way released his first solo album, Hesitant Melody, in 2009. It received generally positive reviews from critics and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.
